I have had mine looked at and fixed (a couple different ones) with good
results.  The rest of the camera was cleaned, lubed, and adjusted at the
same time for about what a new eBay (read "unknown quantity") Spotmatic
would cost - so it is worth it to me to have my trusty old one serviced.
You could be told that it is not repairable, but in that case it should not
cost you much to find that out.  And unless you've had experience with the
shop, it wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion.
