their stock has been tanking for the last while. why? because even if they are selling as many as they can make, they are not making as many as they promised in press releases and in quarterly reports. all but Canon are revising downwards their sales figures which means profits go down. it's worse than it sounds since the rate of prices dropping isn't changing. that's still better than Konica Minolta, which expects to post yet another annual loss in the digital imaging products division. they're net positive because the copier division makes lots of money.

Pentax is one of the Big 5 camera vendors from Japan, for the moment. being at the top of the top 5 sales list or not on it at all is worthy of comment. being on it alone only means that they aren't irrelevant yet. the continued drop in stock price means those that have the money don't believe the company is on the right track and are selling.

I have seen posts that Pentax is selling the istD and istDs as fast as they can make them.
If their manufacturing is at capacity, and they are selling everything that comes off the end of the assembly line, then they are doing OK.
