I've responded to Butch privately on this. What he did, and especially his explanation of it, is very interesting to me and very helpful. I am a complete novice at this, and find the huge number of tools available even in the cut-down versions of PS to be rather intimidating. It is good to see some specific examples of what can be done in a real-world case.

Hi guys

Here's my take on John's image. The first link is his original the second is
the manipulated image.

Also, please let me know if the links don't work for you. It was a PITA to
get a URL for the page.

Comments appreciated

Links work for me.

I like what you did to the background. I'm less certain of the
changes to the subject. There was a little wrinkle near her mouth
that you "air brushed" out. I didn't mind it in there; after all,
wrinkles are a part of aging, and it was only a small and therefore
inoffensive one. Still, getting it out was okay, I guess.

I'm not so sure that I like what you did around her mouth. I know you
got rid of shadows and it almost looks like you gave her fuller lips,
but maybe that's only because those shadows are gone. It seems rather
artificial-looking, however. Maybe it's all in my mind because I know
it was manipulated, but that's my feeling none-the-less.

Kind of got rid of or toned down some shadows/lines on her neck, too.
Same thoughts there as the little wrinkle by her mouth.

You know, I can't help but think yours looks too "sterile" and has an
air of artificiality about it. Again, that's comparing it with the
original. Had I seen yours from the get-go, without reference to the
original, I'd likely feel different.

cheers,
frank
