In case you want to know how to _do_ it -

Press the Menu button, then go into 'advanced function' then scroll down to "Self Timer Delay Time" and set that to "2 seconds." Then activate the self timer by pressing the middle button to the right of the LCD - the one below the green button and above the flash/red eye button. From a fresh power up, press it twice.

Personally, I like mirror pre-fire, and have felt that way about it on the Pz-1p and Mz-S, as well as *ist-D. Compared to manual mirror lockup (which I use on the LX) you are less likely to know a critically focused subject off center or out of frame with pre-fire. Electronic Mirror Lock up would be the best though.

Finally got a real tripod, so now i'm wondering how do i get mirror lockup on the istD? there was some discussion about it a while back, but i dont remember what was determined.
