I assume you found out that the front assembly with the focusing threads
is a six-thread helicoid? There are six ways to reassemble it and five
of them are wrong. Ask me how I know! ;-)

I did the same repair on an F 70-210 a few years ago. Apparently that
screw in the zoom assembly is the weak link with this lens. I also
damaged the information brush in disassembly, but I just bought a
totally trashed F 28-80 on eBay for $10.00 and stole the brush from
that.
