H H Bennett - pioneer photographer, inventor, entrepreneur - Bennett's passion was landscape photography, photographed the unique rock formations of the Dalles of the Wisconsin, then promoted the region to the rest of the country to visit. In the days of controlling exposure using lens caps, he invented a shutter mechanism that allowed him to stop action.

This photo is one of a series documenting rafting lumber down the Wisconsin River in the late 1800's. Note the rope caught in mid-air using his stop-action shutter. Other photographers refused to believe the action could be stopped and accused him of inserting heavy wire in the rope, thus stiffening it so it could be held in place during a long exposure.

As of a month ago similar vehicles were in operation in San Diego, Ca. and as of a few years ago Pittsburgh, Pa. had them too.

Those amphibious tour vehicles have been greeted with harsh public opposition in a lot of places where they have been tried, such as in Hawaii. How are they doing in London? Have there been outcries from the locals or from the government?
Why? Erosive damage or pollution from the large and militarily thirsty engines?
