If you continue to be concerned, it should be fairly simple to open an 
account with your bank specifically for this purpose with a minimum opening 
balance.  Have the $ transferred to the new account, then you make the 
transfer to your "real" account.  As others have mentioned, make sure you 
agree upon who will bear the burden of the transfer charges.

Is there any risk to giving out banking account numbers?  I suppose the
account number is on every check you write, so... maybe I'm just being
