Thanks Shel and Steve.
If you look at the image file, on the right, the editing went like:
- Added a layer copy of the background, did a lens blur on it, then added a mask and painted out the bits of the blurred layer I didn't want.
- Added an adjustment layer with the Curves tool, pulled down the values, then painted on the mask to achieve the selective "dodge & burn" effect I wanted.
- Added another adjustment layer with the Curves tool, pushed down the corner as it was a bit higher than I wanted.
