BTW:
The February 2005 issue of FotoMagazine has a lot of lens tests (hundreds)
published.
Pentax converters are generally the best rated of all, with only one
exception: Nikon TC 14-E (9.8/9.2) (Optics/Mechanics)
Pentax 1.4 x L (9.6/9.6)
Pentax 2 x L (9.6/9.6)
The (discontinued) 1.7x AF is not mentioned. But I certainly don't have any
complains.

Like Paul said: The Pentax-F 1.7 AF Adapter works extreemly well with the
*ist D.
It is worth the trouble, believe me.
At long distances you can't focus that accurate or fast yourself.

I use it for panoramas like this one.

> That was a joke about the A 70-210 and autofocus. (Not mine. Don't shoot
the messenger:-). Of course autofocus with manual lenses is theoretically
possible with the FA 1.7 converter, although I wouldn't think it's worth the
trouble.

In fact the FA1.7 works extremely well with my 135/2.5 and 200/2.5 and I'm
delighted with it. Who could have imagined that old quality glass like this
can be so versatile in a modern system? If only they were 'A' lenses ...
