Looks like you've got yourself a new lens, Dave :-) Henry's will offer peanuts for it so your mate will just have to sell it to you for a song. I looked at trading in my 10D at Henry's a couple of months ago. I was offered $500. They would give $400 for a D60. Needless to say I went out and made a private sale. The shop guy told me that the day before someone had come into the store looking to trade their D60 and D30 in and ended up making a deal with another customer who happened to be in the shop at the time!
