I've read all the possibilities suggested, and was waiting for the tinfoil hat and full of moon... but it still seems to me it might be the high voltage power supply going bad.
Why at night? Might be a mains problem, where the voltage fluctuates at night, and that's adding insult to the power supply's injury!

Completely off topic here but in light of the recent monitor discussion, I
too have a monitor problem. For some reason, and only at night time, the
display on my monitor does this funny flickering, wobbly thing. I can
continue to work on it but it kinda makes me motion sick. lol.

Anyways, it never gets turned off, but ONLY does it at night, which I think
is a very strange phenomena, I mean how can a CRT monitor tell the time?!

In addition to all the other suggestions: check for fluorescent lights
in the immediate vicinity. The ballast from these things puts out a big
EM field.
