I'm sure the technophiles will jump in here with the maths, but IIRC,
check your monitor's refresh rate. If it's 75 Herz (or is it KiloHertz??)
or thereabouts, flicker can be quite an issue to some eyes. More
noticeable in a dark environment. 85 KHz and above is better...

To my knowledge LCDs don't flicker at a rate that can be perceived by the
human eye.

I may be talking total bollocks here.
