I hate to nit-pick but you can convert from sRGB to Adobe RGB... but you won't gain anything by doing so (theoretically you'd lose a little quality due to quantisation of the transformed colour values).


To answer the original question I'm going to be very, very (very) brief.

If you want things to "just work", use sRGB for everything. I strongly recommend using it if you're having your pics printed at the photo lab. Their machines ignore embedded profiles and assume sRGB. Also, photos for the web should be converted to sRGB.

Adobe RGB is indeed a wider colour space and is generally better suited for inkjet printing... with some limitations.
