I would have liked a black one, but couldn't really justify the additional cost - when I bought mine (1976 or 1977) I didn't have a lot of extra cash. I was buying in the UK, so the price was already a lot higher than prices in the US or the middle east. Buying a chrome body instead of a black one meant I ended up with a M-50mm/f1.4 rather than a M-50mm/f1.7; a trade-off that I have never regretted. (Plus there was a chrome one in stock; the black one would have been a special order item).
