until you address these problems, there isn't a lot of advantage to any partitioning scheme. the system should boot completely every time and run for weeks on end unless you choose to shut down or reboot your system. even my Win95 and 98 systems ran this way. the only reason i went to WinXP from my Windows 2000 system was better support for much larger hard drives and memory configurations.

However, the XP running (or the harddrive) doesn't feel completely safe, there are some application problems, it won't boot completely until after a few tries etc., why I thought I'd make this new drive prepared for installing an OS to it as well.
