AMF bought it, cheapened it, made it a rattle trap, sales plunged. Harley Bros. bought it back, brought back their standards - and improved them (can't call them "oil slingers" anymore). Now they're an American icon again. Could happen with Leica, but buy backs like this happen so seldom.
The equivalent would be for Leica to introduce a NEW! M1 with autofocus, digital back, _gargantuan_ list of "upgrade" options (without which it would be a clunky, slow, dangerous piece of kit) and a sale price of about $15K.
Of course, it would be available in candy pink, all chrome (not satin) and other EXCLUSIVE!! colour options and have LED bodylight installation points already built in. So it would look good.
