Panasonic's been on the FourThirds development agreement for a
while. Recently, they announced a collaborative relationship
with Olympus and Leica ... If Leica tanks out, I suspect
Panasonic will buy up the lens design/engineering team assets.
I would certainly expect Panasonic to produce a FourThirds
(14x18mm) SLR camera, likely with Leica or Olympus designed
lenses. That could be very interesting as Panasonic's recent
cameras (the FZ ultrazooms, the LC-1/Digilux 2) have been very
good performers despite a small sensor chip, and they recently
announced an interesting innovation in small-sensor quality and
sensitivity.
Sony is another chip producer and has a big relationship with
Carl Zeiss Group ... I would expect to see Sony and Zeiss
collaborate on lenses and feel it's more likely that Sony would
use the 16x24mm sensor line which they have well in hand.
