Hi, all (or most) CF cards should conform to some standard. You can
hook them up via PC-Card (PCMCIA) adapter to a PC-Card reader (common
in notebooks, available for desktops too) and it should look just like
a disk. Of course, you can also use USB/Firewire CF reader where it
will work the same, but for some low-level access (not that is what I
think you want to do with it, you would just transfer pictures and
files, no?) the ATA interface trough PCMCIA adapter is the only
option. Also, you can get CF desktop readers which hook up onto the
ATA interface. All CF cards are ATA internally, if I understand them
correctly.

But for normal usage, you will be fine with USB2/Firewire CF card
reader.

Others here have used 4GB Hitachi without problems in the IstD, Tanya
comes to mind.
