It wouldn't be difficult to produce a lens with better performance than the 
M40/2.8 these days, it's legendary for being small, nothing else IMHO. I had 
one and sold it fast, terrible focus ring, relatively soft across the frame, 
only five aperture blades and older coatings don't add up to a stellar 
performer.
