I did something similar back in the '80s when I was working at Apollo Computer. I put together a computer-generated image entitled "Self Portrait", showing a DN600 colour workstation. The image on the screen was, of course, "Self Portrait". I ran the detail remapping algorithm to around 8 levels, IIRC. I may even have a copy of that image (made on a film recorder) lying around somewhere, but I certainly can't put mu hand on it. I do have some images from those days, though. I've got a couple of the 4' x 4' "prints" (made directly onto hardboard) that one of the Boston corridor high-tech firms made of some of the SIGGraph images. I know they had these images lining the corridors of their corporate HQ, so I went along to the bankruptcy sale to see what I could pick up. I got the two I was interested in - images created by colleagues of mine at Apollo, using software I helped write. They now hang either side of the mantelpiece in my living room. For reproductions made from 4MP originals they don't look too bad.
