Some used DSLR's have already hit the $500 USD mark; I believe I've seen one or two DRebels go for not much more than that. With every passing generation there is more and more opportunity for non DSLR owners to "jump on board" by buying a good quality used unit.
The recent influx from Canon with their 20D, 1D MK II and 1Ds MK II and subsequent adjustments in pricing compared to previous generations, allowed for a large amount of used 1D's, 10D's and even some 1Ds's to become available to those looking to upgrade from film, non-DSLR digital or earlier DSLR models such as the D30, D60 or DRebel/300D. The same could be said for every other DSLR maker, once they get deep enough into production of newer units. If we're talking "New" - then I think it will take a bit of time yet before we see a sub $500 DSLR - how long?? I'd say give it 2 years or more - that's just a guess mind you :) Cheers Dave Original Message: ----------------- From: Collin Brendemuehl [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Mon, 17 Jan 2005 08:42:14 -0500 To: [email protected] Subject: What's the outlook? BLOG: The used 5Mp digital market is now cheap. That's making film expensive. A used Nikon 5000 or 5700 is a very capable camera and $250 - $400 is a nice price range for such a quality unit. So I'm really tempted. Really tempted. (The film cameras would be relegated to b&w, for the most part.) The Questions: How long until a DSLR hits the sub-$500 (that's sub 300GBP for those on the metric system)? What is required in the marketplace to effect this? What is required in the manufacturing to effect this? Sincerely, C. Brendemuehl Caveat: This information should be viewed critically. It may merit as much technical excellence as a CBS news report. ________________________________________________________________ Sent via the WebMail system at mail.safe-t.net -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .
