What happens to the sensor? It doesn't look like it gets any long term damage, or am I missing something?
If you look in the sky portion of the picture, you can see pink streaks where the sun has tracked across the frame. When conditions are right, it is very obvious. The streaks run from top left to bottom right (very approximately) in parallel curves, demonstrating the sun's changing track through the sky as the year progresses. They are permanent artefacts on every future picture this sensor will take.
