I've heard of all those problems with the 530's except being prone
to rust. Tell me more. In South Africa BM's are pretty cheap to
fix, the one factory is about 70km's away from me...

Hi Frank,
All cars have problems, that particular model for instance will suffer
from oil leaking from the sump, the rain will leak into the rear right
window joint, water leaks into the boot on the right hand side and all
3 series have BM sickness, a noise from the tappets that you wont
be able to fix oh and you can't drive with the drivers window open
when it rains on the RHD model as the windscreen wipers smack
the rain into your face. And every 8 months or so the headlights
start acting funny....want me to go on.:) Despite this I have only driven
BMW's, a 318i, and a 535i, the only model you should never ever
buy is the dolphin 520i. And now I'm saving for a 98 model M3 just
like JP's

Be glad you don't have a 530i.
Cracked cylinder heads, underperforming cooling system, extrememly prone to rust, weak drive shaft and power windows that gave out very quickly.
I'd never own another BMW myelf.
