Subject: RE: Finally Scored a BLACK Pentax SL

Yes we have no light meter. The SL, which is NOT a spotmatic
is the same as a spotmatic except there is no internal
light meter. The side effect is you get a very nice PLAIN viewfinder
with no distractions. NO meter switch, ASA Dial, or battery compartment
either. There is an external light meter you can install but it isnt
very good looking and ruins the classic look of the camera. The black
versions in nice condition like this are VERY hard to find. The SL came
out in 1969 and was only available for a few years. There is one major
flaw with the design of the SL though, since there is no meter switch,
there is no way to stop down a non-pentax M42 lens for DOF preview.
Pentax lenses have the switch on the lens, but some non-Pentax lenses
don't. No matter to me, nearly all of my M42 lenses are pentax.

Regarding the collectables:
Yes, I use them on occasion, but usually only in a studio setting where
they are not going to be subject to loss or damage. I always run at
least one 36exp roll thru any 35mm film camera I buy just to test the
transport. Everything else can be tested without film with the right
tools.

Let me guess: no light-meter either :-)

Enjoy your new camera. Out of curiosity, do you run film past
collectible items?
