I never noticed this, but I never use really small apertures. I'll have to try this tonight.

In this case light level passing through lens and closed diaphragm can be insufficient for metering system (it works from EV 1). So using "green button" on *istD with older lenses for shots in darker places (sunsets?) and with large DOF = small apertures, you'll get exposure errors.
