I spent some time aboard ships in the U.S. Navy, but never had to do seaman's labor, as I was a hospital corpsman.
Nevertheless, it brings back pleasant memories.
You never forget.

One of the hardest jobs for a newbie deckhand is "driving the Maserati" - grinding rust, it has to be done all the time before you apply "Menning" - the red color" and finally the painting. Imagine doing that for hours in the deserts of the Suez channel pr the tropics at nearly 50 grades on hot steel for $2 per hour! - Look at the picture to see the Maserati.
