I trust William Robb's opinion, and I've heard him write (man,
now THAR's a conundrum) many times that C-41 cannot really be pushed.
Why is it that such is true of neg film, but not slide film?

Can someone please help me understand the automated C-41 developing

process? I

have shot a roll of ISO 400 color negative at 800 speed. What is done
differently at either the processing or printing stage? The regular photo

guy I

trust to take care of my processing is on extended leave. His

replacement(s)

look at me blankly when I ask them this question.

The film is taped to a leader card and then inserted into the processor. The
drive pulles the leader card, which in turn pulls the film.
Some people say you can push process C-41 film successfully, a one stop push
extends the development from 3:15 to 3:45.
Personally, I don't think push processing C-41 does anything other than
increase the mask density.
At the printing stage, the exposure time will be shortened to compensate for
the lower density negative.
