This is not the "sticky mirror" problem that the LX suffers from, but yes, it is probably caused by the foam below the focussing screen starting to deteriorate. Had the same sort of problem on one of my MXs, the mirror would swing up and get stuck on the foam. It shouldn't cost too much to get it replaced.
