Hi guys and Ladies,
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the strange circumstance of my PZ1
not firing its onboard flash when I had third party AF lenses mounted.
Specifically, I had on that occasion a Sigma 70-300 lens, and on
another attempt, I had a tamron 28-300 mounted. Neither lens would fire
the onboard flash, and it would act like it wasn't charging, the flash
indicator lightning bolt kept flashing, wouldn't stop.
I could get the problem to go away if I put on a manual focus pentax M
series lens (the 50/1.7) I don't own any nonpentax manual focus lenses
so I couldn't check that possiblity.
I"m just wondering, it just occured to me-- is it possible that the
camera won't fire the flash if the lens is "out of range" that is, it
won't flash for a lens that is longer than its programed coverage?
(though I don't find that entirely plausible-- a 100mm lens is longer
than the AF500ftz is programed for.... so I though maybe the onboard
flash is also set for no higher a focal length than 85?
Well, the stew got even thicker when I put the same Sigma 70-300 on my
PZ 20, and once again, no onboard flash. If I wanted flash, I had to
use my AF 500ftz. But I like to use the onboard flash as a direct flash
and use my lumiquest bounce or soft box for the Af500ftz......
Hmm. I don't remember having these problems before. I don't shoot
portraits often these days, but I like things to work like I expect
them to. My biggest problem right now, though, is trying to remember if
this has always been the way these lenses and flashes have
intereacted.....
I suppose early onset Alzheimer's may be at work here....
Yet, if anyone has an answer to the Lucid part of my post here, I'd
appreciate some help.... (Yes, I do know that the "lucid parts" may
also be nonexistent...)
I do remember my name. And my bank ATM password, so I'm still OK.
Sid
