Yes it may well be a fools game, but categorically stating what can and 
can not happen in the future is just plain ignorant. As I have said all 
along, the technology may well be completely different, but we will have 
gigapixel resolution in digital cameras in the future. I understand the 
restrictions upon sensor size and sensitivity as it stands now, but we 
(humble PDMLers) are not really privy to the world of R&D at Pentax, 
Fuji, Kodak, Nikon, Canon, Foveon, or Intel or AMD or any one of the 
thousands of other companies who play this game. If sensors can't 
develop past the theoretical end game of X megapixels, then many of 
these companies had better start developing other products as they will 
surely go broke. Thom Hogans article said similar things about the 
future (or lack thereof) of Kodak.

The bottom line is that I don't really consider it too foolish to think 
about the future a little and what it may bring. Other people who have 
the technical and financial resources at their disposal do the same 
thing...only they call it R&D, and the results of their foolishness are 
called INNOVATION.
