My computer guy sez that component quality is all over the place with PC,
and bad drivers are rampant.
Put good equipment together, and make sure that all the components like each
other, drivers don't interfere with each other, and PC's are fine.
Mac owners have an easier time because it is all propriety equipment, and
there isn't as much varietey of software out there to give each other
headaches.
My first PC was a well built PII 266, and it would run for weeks with no
problems. My second one was a badly built PC, and it showed, sometimes
crashing for no other reason than running two programs that hated each
other.
