I have neither a hole nor a cap where the slow speed dial would be, so I
assume it's one of the earlier versions. I guess I should have said that
the IIb was introduced in 1954, as I have no idea when mine is from. :)

Yeah, go figure. :)

Argh! That waist-level finder is cool, but hard to use. Very
frustrating. Simple little angle adjustments are almost impossible. It's
something that I'm definitely going to have to get used to.

Yup, can't beat that buttery feeling. :)

There's a seller on eBay who keeps trying to get $25 US for them, but
people very rarely bite. We sell them brand new from Pentax for $25 CAN,
so if you see them for $30+ that's a bit high. I e-mailed a guy who deals
partly in adapters, and he said that he sold his last two a while ago for
$150 US apiece. Whew... out of my league.

I remember that one. Pretty good trick, too. :)

Thanks for all the help, Fred. It's nice to know that other people share
the addiction. There was an auction that just ended for a IIa with the
58/2.4. I wanted that one so badly, but it went to $305 US without
meeting the reserve, and the shutter speeds might not be accurate. For
about $25 less I got the IIb with both lenses. As a perfect complement,
there's a IIa with the 58mm and 100mm lenses that just came up, but it's
not in great shape and I'm sure it'll be very pricey by the time it
ends. Ah well... all the more reason to love the one I have. :) Do you
have any funky accessories for yours, like extension tubes, 5 fps drives,
etc? *LOL*

And I still cannot believe how gorgeous the ground glass is to look at. I
wish the magnifier covered the entire screen, but the part that I *can*
see looks even better than a slike... very three-dimensional. I'd love to
have enough money to collect cameras, but for now I'm satisfied with
getting the occasional hard-to-find piece and using it. For me, using it
is most of the fun.

Thanks again, Fred. Do you know of any clubs, mailing lists, or other
cliquey things <g> for people who like the old pre-Spotmatic screw mount
stuff? I still use AF when I feel like it, but there's certainly
something to be said for the heft of a nice metal camera.

:)
