I've got to agree with doug, I quite like the first one if you do a
small amount of cropping.

One thing you have to remember is that if you are shooting neg film the
lab will take liberties with your exposure. I've had it happen quite
often that I take a picture that I want to be quite dark and the lab
will brighten it up 2 stops for me so all the effect I captured is
gone. So check the negs for exposure. That said in the lower 2 the
night lighting looks about right, but the sky is still about one and a
half to 2 stops to bright for my way of thinking. The solution to this
is to wait for the sky to get darker and take a few shots while you are
waiting, just so you have an idea of when the balance is right.

Composition is of course another thing. I want to take Melbourne
morning sunrise pictures from the top of the Bolte Bridge - I'm waiting
for the sun to come up later than it does now.

Hope this helps a bit, if not email me a phone number and if you are
still in or near Melbourne I'll come have a look and we can discuss the
pictures and Pentax equipment and similar such things. I spend each
working day in the first tall building on the right.
