There is no (legal) way to "extend" (rights-enable, reader-enable, etc.)
PDF forms without paying Adobe for a license. You can get individual
form licenses, but the per-form cost would probably provide 5-10 of your
staff with new PCs with change left over.

There are a few products out there that provide the same end-result,
just not with the same simplicity as Adobe's Reader Extended forms. One
is called pdf-Form Server from OVIS
(http://shop.pdf-office.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=29&lan
guage=en) and it's priced a fair amount cheaper than outfitting all your
users with Approval or Acrobat.

A while ago I thought I was the only one who was confused about Adobe's
"new" PDF technology in regards to local saves. It appears to be one of
the most common misunderstandings (is that too kind?) in the industry,
however. IMHO - I hope Adobe will start to listen to their client's
needs a little more closely and perhaps even disclose what it takes to
use PDFs as eForm technology.

Good luck.

Mark

I'm looking for a solution that may fall in the same category. How do
I
"Reader-enable" a form ?
According to the Reader 6 user guide we now can not only fill-in a form
and
print the form with the Reader but save it - with - the contents of the
filled in form if the form was created with Acrobat 6 & Distiller 6.

This was a huge argument for our department(s) to upgrade some work
stations with Acrobat Professional 6 (inclusive mine). However, no
matter
what setting variation I try when creating the file & form, the moment I

try to fill in fields with Reader 6, an info is displayed that this
requires the full Acrobat version to save it with text.

Any idea? Both manuals Reader v6 and Acro Pro v6 are not very specific

regarding any setting for this particular feature :-(

Regards,

Hans
