I have to say how disappointed I am that Acrobat 6 does not support duplicate signature fields. Next week I have stand up in front of several hundred peers and recommend they try and obtain a copy of Acrobat 5 because of the advantages it provides in allowing duplicate signatures on multi-sheet plans.

Can anyone enlighten me as to why Adobe took away this useful useful feature when it designed and built Acrobat 6.

Cheers

According to what I was told in response to a similar complaint I made earlier here, it's for "security" reasons. No one expanded on this. Just "for security reasons."

If you want a workaround for Acro 6, place blank buttons where the other signatures are supposed to be, no background, no border, read-only. Place an actual signature field in the most critical place. Add a "when signed" action to the signature field which will place a JPG of the person's signature as the button icon for the buttons. (You'll have to dig into JavaScript and find out how to read who's signing the doc. In the alternative, use buttonImportIcon() and have the user browse for it.) Kludgy, but it might do the job for you.

BTW, don't try to delete the multiple signature fields created by 5 while you're in 6. The doc will look fine on screen, but Acro6 will likely give you an "unexpected quit" when you try to save it after you've deleted duplicate signature fields in 6. I had to open my old docs in 5, delete the duplicated signatures, reopen in 6, and place new sigs as separate fields. In my experience, when it is necessary for more than one person to sign a document, it increases the file size considerably. (Example: an appraisal report, one signature, 2.8 MB; two signatures--mark all fields read-only after the last signature [not undo-able, of course]-- 5.1 MB.)
