ORIGINAL PROBLEM:
> Everything is working fine on and off the internet. I can restart the
computer with no trouble. BUT, everytime I go to *shut down* the computer, I
get an illegal whatever message on the desktop, I click OK, the screen goes
black, then on a blue background I get the following message

> A fatal exception 0D has occurred at 2837:000029E Press Ctrl/Alt/Del to
restart the computer.
> Press any key to continue (blinking cursor)

> After that, neither Ctrl/Alt/Del works nor does pressing any key do
anything. I then get a white arrow which, by the way, is able to be moved.
All that's left to do is shut down and give a cold reboot. Any ideas? ...

CLINT SAYS::
> Unfortunately Harold, this is one of the more difficult problems to pin
down since they can be caused by just about anything. The good thing, is it
only happens at shutdown. So for starters, you should shut down/unload
everything running in the background before shutting down. If that fixes it,
then you know it was one of the programs or software running in the System
Tray, or in the background. - -Clint

AND WHAT HAPPENS?
I took your advice, removed everything from the Task Manager list except
Explorer and Systray (which I assume means nothing else is running, and no
need to uncheck anything in msconfig startup as this is a "shut down"
problem). As they say in Yiddish, "Zeh vet gournisht helfen" (nothing will
help). Fortunately I very rarely shut off the computer as my "Standby" works
very well. When resources are down, I just reboot.

Question ... where does one go to find the meaning of these "Fatal
Exceptions"? I would like to know for the future what file I have missing,
or what file I have that might be interfering with the shut down process.
