Well this will generate differing answers depending on your choice of browser and email client. If you use the defaults in XP, IE and OE then you should consider all the spyware/malware scanners discussed in the archives. If you choose to use another browser like Firefox or Opera (there are many others) and other email clients like Thunderbird or Eudora (as well there are many others) then you will not need so many of these scanning tools, if any at all.

I use Firefox and Thunderbird and the only problem I ever run into is an odd cookie that may be malicious on XP. Previously I used Mozilla and Eudora and did not have a need for any of these scanners as well.

Something to consider perhaps.

problem keeping your computer "clean" and I was asking for any further
suggestions on protecting my setup. As a side note I took Keith's suggestion
and updated Spybot to 1.3.

I am using XP Pro with DSL and a router (linksys WRT54G). I also have
Ad-Aware Personal SE 1.05 but lost the Plus package that gives you
Ad-Watch. Not really sure if need it and I also have Sygate firewall. I
also have Spybot 1.2 but I am uneasy with deleting all that it finds
sometimes. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
