(This original post never made it to the archives, so I'm posting it again in efforts to get it in the archives. I'm also a bit surprised only two people replied, and neither one used IE! I also added another site I found that tests PU blockers, it's at the bottom).
I'm sure many would be interested in knowing if anyone's popup blocker software can pass all of these tests on this page. http://popuptest.com My results are below. This is with the XP SP2 Native PopUp blocker on one computer, and PopUp Stopper Pro on my SP1 computer. The SP2 blocker was set to "Low--allow popups from secure sites" and PU Stopper Pro was set to "Enable aggressive popup control". Both PC's have their IE security settings set to as high as they can go, while still enabling file downloads and minimal ActiveX. (I set both to "High", then customized it to allow for these). Test # (Counting from top to bottom): 1. SP2 PU blocker: PASSED first phase, but FAILED when clicking the "Back" button. PU Stopper Pro: PASSED 2. SP2 PU blocker: PASSED 1st phase but FAILED when clicking "Back"--got 1 PU when clicking "Back". PU Stopper Pro: PASSED 1st phase but FAILED when clicking "Back"--got 1 PU when clicking "Back". 3. SP2 PU blocker: PASSED & FAILED (showed NO PU initially but ONE when clicking "Back"). PU Stopper Pro: FAILED & FAILED (showed ONE PU initially and ONE when clicking "Back"). 4. SP2 PU blocker: PASSED PU Stopper Pro: FAILED (PU's came up every 5 seconds). 5. SP2 PU blocker: PASSED PU Stopper Pro: PASSED 6. SP2 PU blocker: FAILED PU Stopper Pro: FAILED 7. SP2 PU blocker: PASSED PU Stopper Pro: PASSED 8. SP2 PU blocker: PASSED PU Stopper Pro: FAILED 9. SP2 PU blocker: PASSED PU Stopper Pro: PASSED 10. SP2 PU blocker: FAILED PU Stopper Pro: FAILED 11. SP2 PU blocker: FAILED PU Stopper Pro: FAILED 12. SP2 PU blocker: PASSED PU Stopper Pro: PASSED 13. SP2 PU blocker: FAILED PU Stopper Pro: FAILED 14. SP2 PU blocker: PASSED PU Stopper Pro: FAILED 15. SP2 PU blocker: PASSED PU Stopper Pro: PASSED (But I noticed that page was in my "Restricted sites" so that may be why it passed that test. It was probably added to "Restricted sites" by SpyBot or SpywareBlaster).* 16. SP2 PU blocker: PASSED PU Stopper Pro: PASSED *I noticed on the SP2 computer that that site was NOT in the "Restricted sites" on it, and it has SpyBot and SpywareBlaster installed. So, evidently that site was something I added myself to the Restricted Sites area and PU Stopper Pro passed it. Ok, so awarding 1 pt. for a full pass and .5 for partial pass, that gives the SP2 PU blocker 10.5 and PU Stopper Pro 7.5. Pretty good I must say for the SP2 blocker, especially since it was set to LOW and PU Stopper Pro was set to "aggressive"! I'm impressed. :-) http://www.auditmypc.com/freescan/popup/popup-test.asp is another site that tests PU software. With it, the SP2 blocker passed all of them. The site said PopUp Stopper Pro failed THREE of them, yet I never saw any PopUps! So I don't understand that. -Clint God Bless Clint Hamilton, Owner http://OrpheusComputing.com ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
