I like Registry First Aid. It does a good job of cleaning without 
disabling things as some other cleaners do. It creates a backup of the 
registry for xp before beginning and a backup of what is removed at the 
end.  There are a number of areas of the registry that it cleans and 
does not take an excessive amount of time.
