You determine what is to be copied over. Even tho its a wizard, the main thing is that it helps to setup the connection. Once thats done, you can access what you and copy it to the new machine. Its not really intended as a backup, but as a help to get a new machine working with the information you want from the old one.

Keith.

I have serial numbered programs and programs with passwords etc.The last
time I had a HD crash all that had to be set up again, and some software
vendors didnt believe I was using the passwords on the same machine.
Will the wizard transfer all that as well in case it happens again do you
know?
Thanks.

it work?

I used this with a friends machine when he got a new XP beastie. We connected the two with a DCC (or LapLink) cable and moved data over to the new machine. We installed the applications on the new machine (it doesn't really work to copy most of them over) and it picked up the data and moved right along. Made the day quite easy.

I just noticed a part of XP called the "Files and Settings
Transfer Wizard". Does this thing REALLY work? It appears it
will do what something like backup software will do. IF that's
the case, then what is the point of backup software? It even
appears to save ALL of the XP custom settings, is this really
the case; when I run it and save the image file to another HD
and run the Wizard on a new PC or HD, and restore the image
file, that's it?? ALL of my previous settings AND FILES,
drivers, custom folders, OE settings and mail, & mail folders'
contents, etc. are all in back where they were as they were on
the old HD? What about the registry?
