Ann, One Great thing about XP, is the Restore Point to an earlier date when your system was running correctly. To access the System Restore do this:
START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > SYSTEM RESTORE Up near the top make sure the "Restore my computer to an earlier date" is checked Click Next down at the bottom >From the list of "darkened" restore point dates, select a previous date when your computer was functioning OK. Hi, I have a new problem today. I use Windows XP and Outlook Express and am on cable. Before today, when I boot up each morning, it would go through the HP sign, the XP sign, the blue WELCOME sign and end up with my desktop showing. Today, instead of the full blue screen with welcome on it, I get a blue split screen with welcome on one side and a box that says OWNER on the other side. (Incidentally, no one uses my computer but me.) Before I can get to my desktop, I have to click on this little box. What have I done to cause this? I am used to turning on my computer and when I have finished my breakfast, I can come to my computer and find the desktop open and I am ready to do whatever I want to. I HAVE made a few changes, but I can't remember just exactly what (After all, I am 77 years old, and my memory is not quite as good as it once was!!). Thanks for all the help you all have given me.
