Hi all, I posted this at a Voodoo forum but have not gotten
any hits. Maybe some of you are familiar with this. I seem
to have a problem on a customer's new PC just being built.
The video card is a 3dFx Voodoo 4 4500 AGP and it's getting
VERY hot, too hot to touch on the backside opposite of the
chipset, and happens immediately just as the board boots
(nothing else is attached to the board yet, just CPU's,
memory and video card). There is a heatsink & fan on the
chipset. The mobo is a dual Xeon SuperMicro S2DGU, 440GX
chipset. Both are compatible as far as 1x/2x/4x AGP goes, so
the voltage is compatible. I'm at a loss as to what is going
on. Is anyone familiar with any problems with that video
card chipset and the 440GX chipsets & overheating? I know I
'could' rig up a fan for the backside of the card, but that
should not be necessary. I DID put another video card in for
the heck of it just to check the heat, and it was not getting
hot. It could be just a compatibility issue with the 440GX
chipset and the 3dFX Voodoo chipset.
Thanks,
-Clint
