1.) Yes, you can safely delete all the files and folders in that Temp directory....even when Windows gives you the scarey warnings....if you are unsure, just leave them in your recyle bin for a couple days until you are satisfied that everything is running ok, then you can permanently delete them
2.) Those weird files are the uninstall logs for any hotfixes you have applied to Windows XP (from the Windows Update site)...if you go into your control panel, add/remove programs, you will see them listed there for uninstalling....you can delete these files, but if you do, you won't be able to uninstall the hotfixes. Hi Everyone, Sorry for the long explanation that follows. I have two questions regarding xp home version. First question Under the c: drive there is a folder Documents and settings. Under this folder are others, allusers, default, Mark(my name) and owner. Inside this Mark folder there is a "Local Settings" folder and inside that is a "Temp" directory. It has a 60mb size now. In it there are a list of folders: _ISTMP1, _ISTMP2 etc, plus the following folders, offfilt, cookies, crfo, history, netfile, pft1~tmp,temp internet files, VBE,and word8. Besides these folders there are lots of temp files eg. h2r2d.tmp, and there are 3 application files, tmpsetup.exe, miunst.exe, ebu14.exe. My question Can these files and folders be deleted with no harm to the system? Second question. Inside the windows folder on the "C" drive there are 13 folders with the following listing, ( $nfuninstallQ 309521$) the only difference in the files is the number that follows the Q. Each of these files have a .log file, a text file under the windows directory. My Question: Are these files and folders needed or can they be deleted with no problem to the system? Any help would be appreciated. Thanking you in advance. Mark. ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
