Hi Sherrin.......To get rid of the Office 97 shortcut bar, rightclick on
your start button and choose Open.....then doubleclick on the Programs
folder...then doubleclick on the Startup folder....in there you will see a
shortcut to Office....delete this shortcut and the Office toolbar won't load
on startup anymore

Osa is is the shortcut bar....find fast is another thing you should
definitely remove from startup....it comes with Office and does NOT make any
finding fast....it actually does the opposite and is a major resource
hog......go to control panel and doubleclick on find fast.....I can't
remember which menu it is cuz I'm using windows 2000 now and I don't have
find fast in my control panel anymore (thank goodness), but whatever menu is
the furthest one on the left ...click on that menu and remove the check
besides "run when I log on"

also, if you are using Windows 98, you might want to check the startup tab
of msconfig (start>run>msconfig) and be sure there isn't a check beside
Office or Find Fast in there either

hope this helps

Subject: PCWorks: removal of Office 97 shortcut bar?

Hi everyone

I recently re-loaded MS Office 97 and would now like to remove the program
bar/taskbar (the one loaded automatically containing shortcuts to the office
programs). I have made a shortcut for Word and don't need the whole bar to
be visible. I have worked out how to close it for one session
only (upon computer re-start it's back). Is there a way to actually remove
it permanently?

Also, can anyone tell me what Findfast and Osa are - they show as programs
when I do a ctrl alt delete to see what's open.

I am running Windows 98, Internet Explorer/Outlook Express 5.5

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

Sherrin
