Well, I have seen that new articles in some groups are seemingly randomy pre-marked as "read". I cleared out my kill file, but that didn't help... it's unfortunate that there is no Valgrind for my system, since I expect it's the result of some memory corruption or inappropriate access or something like that, but it is probably quite difficult to debug. NetBSD is a different system than Linux, with different memory allocation functions, and many system functions have different (often stricter) error checks than Linux has.
