Most enjoyable film!
Not just enjoyable, but it's an incredibly *quality* film too. Despite being
made in 1956, before either acting or special effects were in common use in
Hollywood, it is a genuine classic of not just the science fiction genre but
of film making in general.
I recently watched it for the first time, expecting it to be some hokey old
sci-fi rubbish, and to my astonishment it is well-plotted, well-acted, and the
special effects have stood the test of time. They're not as "big" as modern
CGI SFX, but they work. Some of the dialog and characterization is rather 1950s,
but otherwise the film still works as entertainment, not just film history.
