There has been some work done by Charles back in 2009 in preparation for GTK + 3, then by K. Haley in 2010 with regard to the GTK+ 2.18 release and pre-3.0 deprecations, if I recall correctly. As GTK+ 2 is going to be supported for many years in upstream as well as possibly in all the popular distributions, I don't believe we should be in a hurry with that. GTK+ 3 may not be available on older distributions/systems, but we still might want to continue supporting these for some time. And last, but not least, it also depends on whether K. Haley is going to work on it, or someone else would need to do the work.
