I've googled & tried a bunch of stuff, can't get wvdial to see the damn thing.
wvdial is for telephone modems which use the AT command set, and are
"spoken to" via serial ports. Are you sure that's what you are
supposed to use?
BTW, there are very active Ubuntu (you are using UNR, right?) web
forums that should be able to give you more specific advice.
