(gulp) this almost went out in HTML.
Yes indeed, I remarked this after starting pan immedeately. But
not HTML is my unmet disire for a Newsreader. But better handling
than Pan and Thunderbird I could well dream of.
Funny, but good luck for me, that you, David, are following the
pan-user group, nevertheless.
is from memory. First of all, you need to be running the X Server
(maybe just called X11). If you haven't already,
X11 is installed longtime, I used it for the former version of OO.o
When you run it (start it the same way you would start any
normal MacOS X app), it will bring up an xterm shell window. If you
start pan from that window, it should work (DISPLAY should be set
properly in that shell window). You may need to give the full
pathname. So if I remember correctly, MacPorts puts things in
/opt/local/bin, so that would be /opt/local/bin/pan.
With
cd /opt/local/bin/
and then:
./pan
I finally got it. I began to wright this f'up in pan, tried to
save it, but didn't manage to get it back.
Therefore I went back to my Thunderbird, to wright this message
again and send it.
I was interested in Pan because I miss the functionality of old
Forte Agent for Windows,
but I'm already cured from the idea of trying out Pan.
do that at the moment. Maybe this weekend...
Thank you, David, so far. I don't want to absorb you with the
X11-pan-start question. I think I've already made up my mind,
that Pan with X11 on Mac is not my wishable alternative to
Thunderbird.
==> But if you or anybody else had an suggestion for another and
better newsreader for Mac-OSX, it would be welcome! (therefore I
crosspost it on de.comm.software.newsreader).
