Gentoo user here, too. =:^) Gentoo/~amd64 on my main dual dual-core Opteron 290 w/ 8-gigs RAM and SATA-based 4-spindle md/kernel RAID, and soon to be Gentoo/~x86 on my Acer Aspire One 150L netbook, as soon as I rearrange the storage on my main machine enough to make room for a 32-bit chroot to compile the AA1's packages in. The nice thing is that with that sort of muscle behind my main machine, compiling is no longer the bottleneck at all (basically, no more "still compiling" =:^), and the other features of the distribution dominate. As a dyed in the wool computer control freak, there's really no more perfect distribution for me than Gentoo, which I can control and customize to a degree not really possible with binary- based distributions, while maintaining an overall automated packaging and config system other source- based options like Linux from Scratch can't offer either. I've really found my perfect distribution I think, and having been on Gentoo from 2004, I expect and hope to still be on it in 2014 and beyond. =:^) -- Duncan - List replies preferred. No HTML msgs.
